Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway // Ulverston

Combine the nostalgia of the railway with a boat excursion on this unique attraction.

Journey through Central Lakeland on this unique train/boat connection which runs from Haverthwaite at the southern point of the line via Newby Bridge to Lakeside at the southern end of Windermere.

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway passes through beautiful countryside along the River Leven in the Leven Valley. The 3.5miles of railway on the former Furness Railway branch have been in operation since 1869 and you can take in the scenery of the Lake District in nostalgic 1950's carriages and steam locomotives before getting aboard a Lake Cruise onwards to Bowness or Ambleside.

At Haverthwaite you can arrange a tour of the well-stocked engine shed to see the engineers at work restoring and maintaining the locomotives. There is also a restaurant on-site, souvenir shop and woodland play area with picnic spots.
