Superb Barn Conversion in Cumbria…
About the accommodation
Scalebeck has four properties to offer, sleeping from 2 to 8 people. All the bedrooms and bathrooms have recently been redecorated and some new furniture added to each property.
The Woodland Cottage is part of a 2000 conversion of a 17th century bank barn, and stands alongside the farmhouse within 5 acres of woodland and farmland. The first floor entrance to the open plan living room, dining and kitchen areas allows lovely views of the surrounding country towards the Pennines. Included in this property are a stone surround living flame gas fire and beams. The two bedrooms are on the lower floor. The first has a double bed which is usually placed against one wall to maximise space in the room. On request it can also be positioned with narrow access to both sides. The second bedroom has a zip and link super king which can also be arranged as twin single beds. Please state your preference on booking. The bathroom has a power shower over the bath.
Other facilities include: full gas central heating, car park, fixed stairgate with cot and high chair on request; new LED TV with integrated free view and DVD, CD player, microwave; cycle store and laundry with coin-operated washing machine, tumble dryer and free telephone (due to patchy mobile phone coverage); games room - table tennis and pool table.
Within the grounds we have separate large grassed areas for outside games and dog walking, a BBQ/patio area and there is an unfenced stream and pond (young children would need supervision). From your cottage you may be able to see deer, hares, red squirrels, and an abundance of birds, including woodpeckers, kingfishers, heron, buzzards and sparrowhawks.
One well-behaved dog is welcome.
Appleby's main industry is tourism, due to its history, remote location, scenery and closeness to the Lake District, the North Pennines, Swaledale and Howgill Fells. It is overlooked by the (privately owned) Appleby Castle, a predominantly Norman structure, which provided the home for Lady Anne Clifford, in the 17th century.
With all there is to do and see within the surrounding area or even just around our cottages, this makes for the perfect place to be as Active or Inactive as you wish. An absolutely sublime getaway from it all.
Kay and Andy are waiting to welcome you to Scalebeck.
