Grasmere

Grasmere Lake is a small but beautiful gem in the landscape. It is only about a mile long and no more than half a mile at its widest point, with a small island in the middle. The west bank is beautifully wooded and elsewhere the meadows slope gently down to the water from the mountains.

Access to parts of the lakeside is restricted but there are great views from Loughrigg, a high expanse stretching in a series of peaks or cairns from Grasmere to Windermere.
