Askham Hall // Penrith

Explore the stunning grounds of Askham Hall - a perfect family day out in the countryside of the Lake District.

Set within 12 acres of beautiful lands, the Grade II listed gardens of Askham Hall are a must visit. Meadows, woodland, ponds, formal lawns and colourful terraces, the grounds here are so exciting to explore and boast stunning views across River Lowther. Many families visit to wander the animal trails through the grounds where you'll spot rare breed pigs, goats chickens and shorthorn cattle.

You can also buy plants from the estate and the cafe is open throughout the day in spring and summer, using produce that is grown and reared on the grounds.

Askham Hall itself is now a luxury hotel. It dates back to the 14th century when a peel tower was built on the site, it was substantially built onto in the 1500's and was passed through various hands and had various uses throughout the following centuries. It became a residence in the 1830's to the Lowther family until in 2012 it was converted into the hotel we see today.
