Swarthmoor Hall - Ulverston
Elizabethan Manor House, self-catering, B&B and conference/seminar accommodation. Tours of the historic rooms in the Hall.
Swarthmoor Hall was built in 1586 as an Elizabethan Manor House. It is now a Quaker Centre, which has a variety of activities. Self-catering units, Bed and Breakfast, conference and workshop facilities, tours of the historic rooms and its own programme of weekend events. All are welcome to use our facilities. See our website for more details of the units.
It has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere and many site users find this very useful during their visits. The gardens and grounds are open every day to all, and often used as outdoor meeting space or just a place to sit and enjoy the tranquillity whilst reading or just “being”.
There are 3 self-catering units, which are used as B&B accommodation when not being let out. B&B is self-help and people have access to a kitchen so they can make their own meals if staying on for more than just one night.
In the grounds there is a campfire site with seats and a supply of wood for you to have an outdoor campfire. The wildflower meadow has a grass path around it and different habitats to attract wildlife.
We are well placed for walks and cycling and are only 25 minutes from lakes Coniston and Windermere.
We are about 10 minutes walk from Ulverston railway station and 15 minutes walk from the town centre of Ulverston, a market town which specialises in festivals.
There are lots of outdoor and indoor attractions in the area and you are in the middle of the Lake District within 35 minutes car drive.
