Glenridding was once a small hamlet on Ullswater, one of the most beautiful of the lakes. It was formerly a small lead mining village but is now one of the busiest centres on the lakeside. The fast-flowing stream through the centre adds to the charm of the place. Although frequently busy during the day, Glenridding reverts to being a more peaceful place in the evening. The village is at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass, one of the most scenic routes in Lakeland. This situation means that the village is an ideal centre for fell walkers, particularly those wanting to climb Helvellyn (316 feet) along Striding Edge.
